Peru Mission Trip to Cusco and surrounding villages July 2026

When we arrived in Lima, all of our luggage had to go through security and customs again, which is standard procedure. In the past, we've had to practically beg customs officials to let our glasses through so we could give them away. Because we bring around 2,000 pairs of glasses, they often assume we're planning to sell them and expect us to pay a tariff or fine. This time was different. While we were waiting in the inspection line, one of the customs officers walked up to our group, asked us to follow her, opened a door, led us around the entire inspection process, and sent us on our way. That, my friends, was a miracle! Our God does great things!

Our mission was to provide free eyeglasses to people throughout Peru, and no one was turned away. Each person received an eye exam, was fitted with glasses, and then joined a small group where we shared the gospel. Many of the villages we visited had no evangelical church anywhere nearby. Their beliefs were often a blend of Incan traditions, ancestor worship, witchcraft, and Catholicism. Over the course of two weeks, we served 834 people, and 662 made professions of faith in Jesus Christ. Only the Lord knows each heart, but the pastors we partnered with are committed to following up with every individual, discipling them, and planting churches where needed. It was a joy to watch the Holy Spirit work in people's hearts as many responded with tears of gratitude after hearing the hope of the gospel.

Please join me in thanking God for this incredible harvest. Pray also for the pastors who will travel one to two hours to reach these villages as they disciple these new believers and establish healthy, gospel-centered churches.

The final two days of our trip were spent visiting Machu Picchu to enjoy God's breathtaking creation, but His work wasn't finished. Our tour guide had two different people approach him, each carrying heavy burdens. He told them, "My group will pray for you." We ended up spending about an hour with each person. One woman placed her faith in Christ, and the other left encouraged to continue seeking Him. Before long, the hotel lobby had become a prayer meeting! It was an unforgettable reminder that God is always at work—even in the most unexpected places. What a privilege it was to welcome a new sister in Christ into God's family right there in the lobby.

Carla & Jimmy Johnson

Have you ever pondered if a small group was right for you? Have you been nagged by Pastor Sean to join a small group & been convicted by his sermons? If you have answered yes to any of these and possibly on the fence, know that you are not alone because we were once there too.

On April 8th we received a group text from Ryan Blake telling us he was informed that we were interested & looking for a small group. When I got home that evening I asked Jimmy what he had done? Why did you tell them we were interested in a small group. He said he had not. My next call was to my daughter Shelby asking her who she had given our number to. She assured us she had not. My next thought was Kelly Schieffer lol!

On April 12th Ryan sent a group text telling us the group was meeting at 4 and his wife Isabel had also invited Jimmy when she saw him at church. He advised he would let her know. After church we stopped at Walmart and a teenage boy said hello to me as we passed at the door, I said hello and he said God loves you and you are highly favored, I told him thank you, I had received bad news recently and needed to hear this. I have to admit small group was NOT on my BINGO card! What a blessing the Blake’s have been to us and Christina & Andrew Speer opening their home to us every Sunday and both families give us unwavering support and love. Our time together in the Bible is wonderful!

Join us for the Connection Fair on Sunday, August 9, during both Sunday Gatherings. You will have the opportunity to learn more about Community Groups, discipleship, and other ways to connect with what God is doing through ACF.

Do Life Together!

God designed us to live in community! He told us to encourage, challenge and care for one another. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35)
